We got up and had breakfast before heading of for the new lodge. John was still feeling unwell so Fiona did the driving. It took us 4.5 hours to reach Huab lodge. The last part of the journey was on dirt track and Fiona had great fun pretending to be a rally driver, this didn’t help John’s tummy !!!.
We were met by Ben and some of the other staff and shown around. The owners also have three dogs, Tess, Mafi (Labrador) and Eli (jack Russell), they also came to met us, and were very friendly, we especially fell for Eli who is just so cute. We were shown to our bungalow which is great, really spacious with a large balcony and spectacular view.
At lunch we met the owner Jan, who is German and made us feel really welcome (he speaks perfect English), most of the guests are German but there was also a British couple from Warrington (Liz and Mike). We had a fantastic lunch of salads and home made ice cream, John even tucked in as he was feeling better or so he thought. However after lunch John went down hill so we chilled until the late afternoon game drive with Ben our guide. John was still feeling quezzy (we think he had perhaps got mild food poisoning from a fried egg he had the last morning at Ongava).
We were joined on the drive by Liz and Mike. The pace of the drive was great much slower and not so frantic. Huab doesn’t have as much wildlife as Ongava but is much more mountainous. We saw the regular’s out there but we also saw a huge eagle owl in a tree, it was beautiful and posed for some photo’s. Apparently they can eat a small deer which is amazing.
We returned home had a quick shower and down to dinner. John was feeling even worse by now, so stuck to soup and water. This was a real shame because the owner brought out all these different types of South African wines for us to try, they were great the best we had had all holiday. The food was also excellent and the best so far, not great for the waist line.
We went back to our little bungalow and watched the stars from the balcony, absolutely amazing.
