By the time we had finished breakfast the clouds were moving in. By the time we set off in the car it was beginning to rain and the air was cold.
We drove for over an hour trying to find the walking area. John ended up using his iPhone to find out where we were.
The rain began to tip down. We ended up stopping at a garage. Luckily the lady knew exactly where we needed to go. We not that far at all.
When we reached the beginning of the walk, the sun began to peep out from behind the clouds. However, after half an hours walking the heavens opened and the heavy rain and hail began to batter us. We tried sheltering under some trees but the rain soon came through.
After ten minutes we were soaked through, so decided to make our way back to the car. By the time we reached the car the rain had stopped but the cold wind was still making things unpleasant.
We drove to a near by beach. The wind was blowing the dark sand along the beach, stinging our legs.
We thought about trying the first walk again, but the wind was too cold. It was strange to experience this weather as this is rain forest and it looks as if it should be hot and sticky.
As we made our way back to Auckland the breaks on the car began making a terrible sound. we stopped off at the car rental office, again! This time we upgraded to a newer model. It is still very good value but we feel better in the new car.
In the afternoon the weather began to clear, so we drove to Devonport, the other side of the inlet. The walk was bracing in the strong wind, but we found a beach and bay which were out of the wind. By now the sun was out so we warmed ourselves on a beach bench.
The weather so far has not been that great. Auckland is a nice enough place, but the bad weather does not show it off at its best.
In the evening we went to an Italian restaurant called Da Vinci's. However, the restaurant was at the very top of Auckland. It took over half an hour to walk too and the last ten minutes were almost vertical. By the time we arrived John was sweating and knackered.
The meal was very poor. John had a pizza which looked and tasted like a frozen job. Fiona had a steak with tomato and Cheese which tasted of nothing!! Not a great recommendation from our hotel staff at all!
On the way home we brought some sweets as we still felt hungry. We watched another video and fell asleep.
