We landed at Cape Town bang on time after a tasty BA breakfast. We had quite a walk with all our luggage from the international arrivals hall to the domestic departure hall.
We had a four hour wait for our flight to Johannesburg. They are rebuilding the airport so we sat in the departure lounge on the carpet!!
Just before the expected boarding time, they announced a delay due to a tire issue. Luckily, John went to the desk and explained that we had a connecting flight. The BA lady took control and we ended up going back out to the check in desks to pre check in to our connecting flight, so we could save time at Johannesburg.
There was added complication, due to the original credit card we purchased the flights with, having been stolen many months ago. It took for ever to get the tickets issued with John and the BA lady running round the airport like a couple of whippets!!
We eventually got the tickets and boarded the BA bus to the plane with only minutes to spare.
The flight to Joburg went well. When we arrived we had to transfer again for our last flight of the day to Lusaka. The small jet only held bout 20 people. We were at the back, buy the engines. We landed 1 hr and 20 minutes later in Lusaka, very tired!!
We cleared immigration, having to hand over 150 USD to enter the country. We met our driver and went to the hotel, the Taj Pamodzi. Nice hotel with a good large bedroom. However, the check in staff insisted that the room had not been paid for!! So started a fraught hour of phone calls to the UK to find out why. Eventually Audly phoned back and confirmed everything was OK.
We had a very good meal. Fiona had steak and John had the fish tandouri, yummy!!
We checked out before going to bed due to the early start next day. However, the cashier tried to charge us for the room again. After some debate with other staff, the agreed not to charge us.
We went to bed very tired and had a good nights sleep.
